EBN - Haras de Beaumont and Sealiway, their new stallion for 2023
A new name has been added to the list of French studs with the recent creation of Haras de Beaumont, writes Sally Ann Grassick. Located in Normandy, just ten kilometres from Deauville, in the small town of Vauville, and opposite the world famous Haras du Quesnay, this new stud has been the dream of the Chehboub family for some time. Kamel Chehboub and his daughter Pauline have made their yellow and green colours of Haras de la Gousserie world famous in recent years thanks to horses such as dual Group 1 winner Sealiway (Galiway) and Gr.1 Prix de l’Opera winner Rougir (Territories), who has gone on to win the Gr.1 E P Taylor Stakes since the Chehboubs sold her for €3 million at Arqana last December.
After 25 years as an owner, Kamel Chehboub will finally get his dream of creating his own stud farm. “This is something I have wanted to do for a very long time but finally all of the stars have aligned and it was the right time to do it. We have been breeders sans sol (without land) for a long time and actually bred Gr.1 Arlington Million winner Spirit One from one of our first two broodmares. However, the stud we always used had come into difficulties recently so it pushed us into setting up our own farm sooner than expected. Also, we have been lucky enough to be associated with a wonderful horse over the past few years in Sealiway, who we co-own with his breeder Guy Pariente. Sealiway has given us so much pleasure that we wanted to repay him with the best possible start to his career, It seemed right to stand him ourselves where we can support him with our existing broodmare band, of around 20 mares, which we are also planning to increase in number with more mares that will suit him.” (...)
